Do you pray during the moment of silence? Do you think it would
be good to have a class, at East Hall, to study the religion you practice and
prayer? In 1963, Madalyn Murray O’Hair, wanted to get rid of prayer in school.
She made a lawsuit and won. It was then labeled unconstitutional. Yes,
we do have many chances to pray and study your religion during the school day,
but it isn’t as a class or school. Having a class to study your religion could
help you grow in your faith and help the nation.”Prayer is the key of the
morning and the bolt of the evening.” (Gandhi).
American is someone who lives in a free nation, but follows the
constitution and the amendments. “We will reach the goal of freedom in
Birmingham and all over the nation, because the goal for America is
freedom.”(King, Jr.180). Un-American is someone who is against the customs
(amendments) of the United States.
A paraphrasing of the first
amendment is freedom of speech, RELIGION, and petition. Congress doesn’t have
the will power to make any laws prohibiting free exercise of religion. “That
government is best which governs not at all.”(Thoreau, 412). The government
doesn’t need to control public schools not having a chance to have a class for a
person’s religion.
The class would be optional to the students. The class over all would a
be virtual school. You wouldn’t have to spend extra money on finding a teacher
for it. We would have one for each religion or branch of religion. No one would
be left out.
Since 1963 many things have changed with teenagers. 10-14 year
old girl pregnancies have went up 553%. 15-19 year old girl pregnancies have
gone up 187%. Sexually transmitted
diseases have gone up 226%.
The families have fallen apart since prayer has been taken out
of schools. Single parents with kids have gone up 160%. Single parent families
went up 140%. Unmarried couples living together, up 353%. The divorce rates have
gone up 300%. If you come from a family that has been through one of those you
know what it’s like.
Kids that attend Christian schools have higher scores on test and SAT’s.
The SAT scores have gone down a lot. Education is how you are going to get
through life. Having an education is a major part of the United States society.
The nation has had crime go up 544%. The amount of drug uses and abortion
has gone through the roof. 30 million citizens have chosen abortion.
Why wouldn’t ypu want to grow in your faith? People have a hard time
speaking of their religion. This class would give you a great way to share your
faith. “But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my
father which is in heaven.” Matthew 10:33 (King James Version). We shouldn’t be
scared to talk to other people about our religion. This class would be a great
experience in showing your faith. “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole
staircase.” (King, Jr.). Are you going to take the first step?
